ENA Manifesto presented at the European Parliament

April 21, 2026 marks a significant milestone for the European nursery sector with the official presentation of the new manifesto of the European Nurserymen Association (ENA) at the European Parliament.

Titled “More plants, more life”, the programmatic document was presented in the presence of Members of the European Parliament and EU policymakers, with a clear message: the nursery sector represents an essential component for the success of the European Green Deal and requires greater recognition and institutional support.

With an annual turnover of €10.6 billion and around 250,000 employees, European nurseries provide what is defined as a true “living green infrastructure”, essential to address crucial challenges such as climate change adaptation, urban cooling, and biodiversity restoration.

Among the priorities highlighted in the manifesto are:

the formal recognition of the sector within the framework of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP);

the introduction of quality standards for procurement in EU-funded greening projects;

access to carbon removal credits for nursery-grown plants (CRCF).

During the event, the importance of institutional recognition for the sector was emphasized: “Beyond funding, we need recognition. Recognition of nurseries as the essential starting point for all European environmental ambitions.”

In the coming months, ENA will continue its dialogue with the media and political decision-makers to strengthen the presence and strategic role of the nursery sector in the European landscape, aiming to make its voice increasingly influential in EU environmental policies.
