Italian horticulture production: a new historic production record
Italian floriculture and nursery production sets a new historic record, surpassing €3.5 billion
Italian horticulture production confirms an unprecedented positive trend, reaching a record production value of €3.52 billion in 2025. The figure, released by Myplant & Garden, Italy’s leading international green industry exhibition, based on ISTAT data, shows an 8.1% year-on-year increase and overall growth of more than 30% over the past decade.
The sector’s two main segments
The Italian market shows parallel and balanced growth across its two main segments:
Nursery production (54.3% of total value): reaches €1.88 billion (+8.1%). Tuscany is confirmed as the sector’s undisputed driving force, exceeding €1 billion on its own and accounting for more than half of total national nursery production.
Floriculture (45.7% of total value): flowers and potted plants reach €1.64 billion (+8.2%). Liguria consolidates its historic leading position, approaching €500 million and accounting on its own for 30% of the country’s total floriculture production.
Geographical macro-areas
Production growth is solidly distributed throughout the country:
Central Italy: maintains national leadership, accounting for almost 39% of total value (+8.2%).
Northern Italy: follows closely, accounting for just under 38% of the market (+8.7%), with North-Eastern Italy recording the strongest percentage acceleration (+9%).
Southern Italy: represents 23% of national production, driven primarily by the production hubs of Sicily, Campania and Puglia.
Sustainability and international prospects
Despite global pressure linked to rising production costs, the sector demonstrates strong resilience and capacity for innovation. The Italian floriculture and nursery supply chain is increasingly strategic to the green transition and the development of urban green infrastructure, key elements for public wellbeing and climate resilience.
