The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, along with Agroseguro, estimates that the first list of beneficiaries for the new direct aid to farmers and livestock owners affected by the DANA weather event will be available in six weeks. Affected businesses will receive direct assistance approved by the Government without having to submit an application, following an assessment.
This direct aid will have a budget of 200 million euros and will be part of a comprehensive package of 444.5 million euros to support farmers and livestock producers impacted by the DANA. Eligible for direct aid will be all agricultural businesses whose loss of production, as estimated by Agroseguro, reaches at least 40%. To carry out these assessments, Agroseguro experts will contact farm owners.
In addition to the direct aid, the government has approved 170 million euros to repair damage to land, rural roads, production facilities, and irrigation systems. These repairs will be carried out by the public company Tragsa, with work expected to begin in about two weeks, in December, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
Regarding the 10 million euros allocated for replacing agricultural machinery, the Ministry has clarified that the regulatory framework for this aid will be announced in December.
